Downton Abbey Season 3 Episode 3 is set in the fictional Downton Abbey, the Yorkshire country house of the Earl and Countess of Grantham, and follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants during the reign of King George V. The first series spans the two years before the Great War beginning with news of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, which sets the story in motion. The second series covers the years 1916 to 1919, and the 2011 Christmas Special covers the 1919 Christmas period, ending in early 1920.

Downton Abbey Season 3 Episode 3 is a British television series coproduced by Carnival Films in the UK and WGBH Boston in the U.S. It is set on the fictional estate of Downton Abbey in the North Riding of Yorkshire, England, and features an ensemble cast. It was written principally by Julian Fellowes, who co-created it with Gareth Neame. It premiered on ITV on 26 September 2010 and on PBS on 9 January 2011.

Reception of the programme was predominantly positive; ratings were extremely high for what is usually considered a melodrama, and the first series picked up a number of awards and nominations after its initial run. It has subsequently become the most successful British costume drama since the 1981 television serial version of Brideshead Revisited, and in 2011 it entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the "most critically acclaimed English-language television show" for the year, becoming the first British show to be recognised as such by the Guinness Book of Records. In 2012, Downton Abbey became the most nominated non-American program in Primetime Emmy history, with a combined 27 nominations in its first two series.

Downton Abbey Season 3 Episode 3 second series aired in autumn 2011 on ITV and in January 2012 on PBS. On 3 November 2011, ITV confirmed that a third series had been commissioned. The third series is currently in production for broadcast on 16 September 2012 on ITV and in January 2013 on PBS.

At the preview of the second series at Highclere Castle on 29 July 2011, it was announced that Fellowes was working on a third series, set during the Roaring Twenties. The series will open in 1920 and cover eighteen months. ITV confirmed the commissioning of a third series on 3 November 2011. The series entered production in early 2012, began filming in February 2012, Downton Abbey will return to ITV1 on Sunday, 16 September and it will air in the United States beginning 6 January 2013. Fellowes has stated that it will include a storyline involving Catholicism.

Academy Award-winning American actress Shirley MacLaine joins the cast as Martha Levinson, Cora's mother. She will appear in the first two episodes of the series. Matt Milne has been cast as Alfred, O'Brien's nephew and the new footman, as well as Cara Theobald as the new kitchen maid Ivy and Lucille Sharp as Miss Reed, Martha Levinson's lady's maid, and Ed Speleers has been confirmed to play a new footman called Jimmy.

In April 2012 Downton Abbey's executive producer, Rebecca Eaton, stated in an interview that during series three a couple will get married, a baby will be born, a well-known character will die, and that there are good scenes between Shirley MacLaine and Maggie Smith.
